Purslane & Portulacas – Superfood

The Purslane or Portulacas (also known as Japanese Rose in Malaysia) plant is edible.
Warning: Harvest from a safe location, beside a busy road might be contaminated with rubbish, chemical or even dog pee.

Taste:
The whole plant – flower, leaf, and stem are edible.
This plant taste slightly sour & salty, a spinach-like flavor.

A variety of Portulaca

You can eat the leaves raw or cooked, the stem and flower can be eaten too.

All variety of purslane (portulacas) can be eaten, just make sure you harvest from a safe location.

The leaf of the plant is thick and looks like a succulent, if you see thin leaf plant, that is probably not purslane or portulacas.

Purslane has Omega 3, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium & many others, and is considered a super food.
